“In all relationships there can be jealousy,” relates Maxine X. “Couples just have to learn to communicate, talk about, agree on boundaries, make up their own rules for their relationship and also be patient and understanding.”
As one half of the dynamic duo of Canadian porn, Maxine knows of what she speaks. With her husband of 9 years Scott, the two have skyrocketed to the top of the industry and created a strong and loving relationship at the same. The two met while both working at a hotel in Toronto. As for so many, friendship grew over time and eventually love conquered all. “But he later told me he fell in love with me the first time he saw me. The day I was applying for the job.”
After getting together, Scott and Maxine were eager to explore all that sex and sexuality had to offer. Maxine had always had an interest in modeling, having plastered her bedroom walls with ads from magazines. When she was young, she and her brother found their grandfather’s stash of Playboy magazines. “We would sit on the floor and thumb through them. I always wanted to look like a Playboy model.”
When Scott and Maxine began taking their own photos and short videos, Maxine decided to try out for Playboy. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out, and judging from her body of work since then, Hef missed out on something good. Scott decided he knew better than the bunny master and offered to take photos and video of Maxine and make her a website. From there she started to apply for work with other photographers and models and her new career began to take off! “I couldn't believe I was getting paid to explore my kink and get off! So Fun!”
With Scott already being a video editor, the two ran with their respective skills and quit their day jobs. “Scott turned our hobby into a full fledge Adult Production Company with a DVD distributor and he made the best stuff he could and it took off. We quit our other jobs and went full time about 7 years ago.” The move paid off. In their first year of business, Maxine and Scott had their first Adult Video News nomination. They were the only Canadian production company nominated and the only Ma and Pa company honoured. “We were side by side with big Porn Companies... it was alot of fun!”
While the professional side of the relationship was booming, so was the personal side. Balancing a porn career (Scott also appears in front of the camera) with feelings can be difficult. When asked about jealousy, Maxine readily calls out this writer for a preconceived notion. I presumed Scott would be the potentially jealous one. Not so. The couple started exploring sex with other people at swing clubs, and Maxine readily admits it was she who got jealous if it looked like he was having too much fun. This even occurs on set as well. “He thinks it's hot to see me with someone else in a movie and now i think it's hot to see him with another girl in a movie. But, if I don't get more attention then the other girl on set, I can still get a little pissy. But we always communicate it after.”
Recently, Maxine had been feeling the itch to work in a “work” environment again and slowed down with modeling. She gave waitressing a try, but the hours were long. Scott was looking for a new business investment, so the two realized another of Maxine’s dreams by opening her dream custom boutique Maxine’s Adult Playground in Windor. Customized with her photos and her own toy line, Maxine is loving the new experience. “I have so much fun talking to customers about sex, toys, porn and so much more!”
