Study links menopause to male sex drives

A new study carried out by researchers from McMaster University in Ontario has suggested a new theory for the fact that humans have not evolved away from menopause. The computer modelling study, which introduced mutations that separately affected fertility and mortality into a fixed population, showed that in scenarios where males preferred to mate with younger females, the mutations which reduce female fertility with age accumulated in the population. Though researchers say that these results “may be insufficient factors in elucidating the origin of menopause”, it suggests that male preference for younger females could be a cause for menopause.
