About Me:

I am a freelance writer and editor currently working at The Nation Magazine as a web editorial intern. I strongly identify with SexLifeCanada's sex-positive messages, and I'm very pleased to contribute as the "Sex Work and Feminism in Vancouver" columnist.

For the past couple years, I've been involved with the sex workers' advocacy organization, FIRST (http://www.firstadvocates.org/). As a journalist, I hope to fight the marginalization of sex workers and raise awareness about sex workers' rights by creating opportunities for sex workers to tell their stories in mainstream media outlets.

Previously, I was a sexual health youth educator with Vancouver Coastal Health's Condomania program (See www.planetahead.ca for sex info and job ops). My experience with Condomania has made me very passionate about the importance of providing quality sex education to youth in Canada.

Confronting Bisexuality

I first considered that I might be bisexual in high school. By the time I entered university I felt comfortable enough to “come out” to the friends I had just met in Vanier residence.

My first-year drunken girl-on-girl make-outs bothered me because they seemed to conform to the stereotype of bisexuals as hypersexual, pleasure-seeking hedonists.

I am now in my fourth year at UBC, and I live off-campus with my boyfriend.
