Back from the Sex 2.0 conference in Seattle. The annual gathering is for sex-positive writers and others and has been held in several cities in the U.S. over the past few years.
The event show-cased much of the sex positive community in Seattle. That city ranks only after San Francisco as having the most sex-positive resources in the world.
The event was sponsored by the Foundation that runs the Sex Positive Community Center, known as the Wet Spot. No other single organization that I know of has such an array of sex positive events; there's at least one almost every day. It also sponsors the Seattle Erotic Art Festival, one of the planet’s most important erotic art events.
The Wet Spot has a significantly BDSM focus, although certainly not exclusively. Folks with less fet-centric interests founded the Sharma Center a cozy space popular with the poly community, cuddlers and other “heart centered, touch positive” people.
Then there is the Little Red Studio, a sex-positive performance space connected to a fabulous café owned by an erotic artist. It hosts sexually explicit plays, spoken word events and sex-positive parties.
Seattle is also home to many erotic bodyworkers, many of whom attended the event. The highlight of the conference for me was meeting Seattle erotic toucvh expert Betty Martin (pictured), also host of Seattle’s cuddle parties. Over lunch at the Little Red Bistro Betty introduced me to her innovative model “the circle of consent” which can help erotic bodyworkers navigate reciprocal touch issues in their sessions with clients. I heard many erotic bodyworkers speak highly of her trainings.
